MARCO Grand Rounds for September 23. 2012

From Warren KD4GUA,

Lou Wiederhold WA1HGE, Francestown, NH,  will not be checking in this Sunday-  we will miss you Lou; you were a loyal fun hamster who helped make our world a better place.  Perhaps our signal will reach you somewhere up there!  Please listen for our (your) moment of silence...................

Sunday, we will discuss using 3-D printers to manufacture body parts and if time permits "Savings promised by vendors of information technology are little more than hype."

Wave Wells W5SK, Lawton, OK, with a good signal, has volunteered to present a discussion on dental problems in December.  Others interested in presenting their pet subject should not hesitate as the mike is open for all members.

If you have the opportunity, spread the word "Grand Rounds" is available to your ham friends--we had a Parkinson patient spice last Sunday's discussion on the relative new Parkinson therapy of deep brain stimulation....

Hear you'all on freq............

MARCO Grand Rounds for September 16, 2012

From Warren KD4GUA:

This Sunday we will talk about Alzheimer's Disease and all the meds that mimic it.  Like the latest version of multi-vitamins acting as fertilizer for cancer cells this can be a HOT one.

We had 42 checkins, a near record last Sunday, with propagation we are not used to.  The terrorist was back to entertain us--can someone send that fellow a free backpack?

Keep the blue side up......

MARCO Grand Rounds for September 9, 2012

From Warren, KD4GUA:

This Sunday we will discuss "How Much Would You Pay for Three more Months of Life?"  Bob Smithwick submitted an article from Newsweek, Sept. 3, 2012, which went on to state, "If these drugs cure the disease...no one would be questioning these prices."  Example:  $93,000, the cost for Provenge for patient's with late-stage prostate cancer.  Where does the buck stop?

Drugs to be discussed include Perjecta, Yervoy, Provenge, Terceva, Avastin & Proton-beam therapy which costs twice as much as X-ray radiation.  I had a doctor friend with terminal cancer who told me, "Living has gotten too expensive, I prefer to die."  He did and saved his grandchildren's college money.  What would WE do under similar circumstances--or is that decision too difficult to make unless you are under the scaffold.  Tune in, should be gruesome FUN (?)
