MARCO Grand Rounds for May 31, 2015

From Warren KD4GUA:

This Sunday we will talk about “MODERN DEVELOPMENTS IN REJUVINATION,”   This will be the last discussion of current man’s attempt to slow aging, remembering that life extension is different from “rejuvenation.”  For example, “cell losses can be repaired (reversed) just by suitable exercise in the case of muscle.  For other tissues it needs various growth factors to stimulate cell division along with stem cells.

Monday, May 18, 2015

MARCO Grand Rounds for May 24, 2015

From Warren KD4GUA:

THIS SUNDAY WE WILL DISCUSS "PERSONALIZED MEDICINE."  Everyone has a unique variation of the human genome...one way that biological variation among people makes itself clear , is responsiveness to drugs. For example, ADHD medicine only works for 1 of 10 prescribers, cancer drugs are effective for 25% and depressive drugs work with 60%.  With DNA and RNA studies we can now tell WHO will respond to what.  That is the sneaky preview--tune in and ---------------------LISTEN!

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

MARCO Grand Rounds for May 17, 2015

From Warren KD4GUA:

THIS SUNDAY WE WILLBE SHORT-CHANGED BECAUSE SO MANY WILL BE IN  DAYTON SO WILL TALK ABOUT "THE CUTING EDGE."  NEW THINGS ON THE HORIZON--SUCH AS A MEDICINE FOR PREVENTING AGING RATHER THAN A MEDICINE TO TREAT AGING--YOU SIMPLY PICK AN AGE AND STAY THERE, TO ADVANCE YOU SIMPLY STOP THE MEDICINE.

THE JUNE AETHER SHOULD BE ON "LIST SERVE" IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT LET ME KNOW...

Tuesday, May 05, 2015

MARCO Grand Rounds for May 10, 2015

From Warren, KD4GUA:

THIS SUNDAY WE WILL DISCUSS "DEMENTIA."  TODAY A LECTURE WAS GIVEN BY AMANDA SMITH, MD ENTITLED "Prevention & Diagnosis of Memory Loss."  Notice there was "no treatment" in the title.  WHY?  Because there has been no NEW Rx for this condition in the past 10 years--BUT, there has been progress in diagnosing it EARLY and thus helping to prevent progression.

That will be the main point--YES, there are things to prevent onset too early for if we get to age 85, 50% of us will be demented AND in today's paper it mentioned that the children born today have a 10% change of living beyond 100---think of the problems ahead UNLESS research comes through!

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

MARCO Grand Rounds for May 3, 2015

From Warren KD4GUA:

This Sunday we will have a discussion on "Marijuana, Medicine & Addiction ."  This will feature the feelings of  Dr. Stewart Gitlow, retiring president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine."   Basically, we will present Dr. Gitlow's opinion and then you will have the opportunity to express yours.  In a recent election, Florida voters failed to reach the 60% approval vote to legalize medical marijuana--it was close as 58% voted in favor....there is some recent data coming out that will be featured in a lecture at our hospital in three weeks, this can be a building block on the subject.
